SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAMS

Our social skills program uses outdoor, nature based play and child directed exploration. By focusing on your child’s strengths, encouraging their creativity and engaging their sense of adventure we are able to coach, model and facilitate positive social interaction, self regulation strategies, and impulse control techniques. This program is all about banking successful social experiences in order to build confidence, competency and resilience.

This program will take place at Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre (6920 Concession 1 Puslinch ON, N0B 2J0).

We are lucky enough to be using the back trails and forest of the spectacular 100 acre Sunrise farm!

SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM - PARENT TESTIMONIALS

"Where do I start? When I first heard about your program I knew it was going to be great. As a mother I am a huge advocate of outdoor activity and the “back to basics” concept that you two have mastered. It’s these theories paired with the social skills that you have presented to these children with immense ease. As a mother of a child with high anxiety, who has explored just about all avenues to help him relax and enjoy life as a seven year old, you two have done it. I ask him every time he gets home from camp to tell me what you all got up to. I swear his reply is always “we just played in the forest”. Typical, right? But it’s more than that. It’s an anxious child who is excited to go to bed the night before camp. It’s a gentle and kind child who can now be comfortable enough to invite others along as he uses his imagination. It’s a child who doesn’t sleep for weeks before a new school year begins, who suddenly walks into the first day of school with a smile and a confident wave goodbye. Thank you for all that you have done, and continue to do for families like ours."

"Our son cannot wait for his weekly excursions to Something Good.  We love that the activities are outside. The kids can dress appropriately and bring a snack to enjoy in the forest. Our son loves to use his imagination and there are few opportunities to play in an unstructured environment with a group of like minded kids. Sydney and Lilah are fun!  They encourage the kids to interact with their environment and with each other. They have a level of enthusiasm to match the kids and constantly inspire stimulating activity.  We appreciate the positive support they give to our son. Their coaching also reinforces the social skills that he struggles with."

"What a FANTASTIC program!! Our 4yo absolutely loves it and adores his two teachers. It’s been really awesome hearing and seeing how he is progressing!  Every week he counts down to ‘Forest School’ on Saturdays.  Sydney and Lilah are fabulous with the kids- very luck we stumbled upon this program! Can’t recommend it enough!"

LITTLE EXPLORERS

This program is designed for parents and their young children under the age of 4. Join us on Friday mornings to learn about the fundamentals, the history and the importance of outdoor, unstructured, free play!

The program will be most successful for children who are walking and mobile as we will be outside on uneven ground for the duration. If you are also bringing younger siblings or other children we recommend utilizing a carrier instead of a stroller as we will be out on the trails and in the woods

Ages: Walking - 4 years old
